I discovered Watlington Recreation Ground on a spur of the moment visit looking for somewhere to stop enroute to the new adventure playground at Stonor Park as we were too early for our timed entry. What a fantastic find, I can’t believe this park hasn’t been on my radar before. Having three boys aged 4, 8 and 10 years, it’s not that easy to find an all rounder that keeps everyone happy but Watlington Park ticks the boxes.
Watlington Playground
The playground is fully enclosed by a fence which is great when you have little ones who can run in different directions. I was also really impressed that they had hand sanitizer at the gate to you get an easy squirt on your way in and out.
The playground at Watlington Park has a good mix of play equipment for toddlers, preschoolers and slightly older children too. For the young ones there are baby swings, a little climbing structure with mini slides and other things to explore and climb on.
Slightly older kids get a good stretch with a larger climbing frame and slide, zip wire and and a spider’s web netted challenge.
Something that looked a little more unusual was The Intelligent Play System which can be played solo or are as multi player game.
Watlington Skate Park
Now this really does have the wow factor. As we entered the park we could see a big blue bowl with a graffiti style giant octopus painted inside. I’m sure teenagers absolutely love bombing around inside. It was empty when we visited so my little one had a good run around and then I had the challenge of trying to get him back out!
There’s also a skate boarding pipe, to be honest I’m not down with the lingo so not sure that’s the term but you can tell from the photo below. There’s also a mini flat track circle with little ramp.
Watlington Recreation Ground
Surrounding the playground and skate park there is plenty of grassy space too for a kick around with a football. There’s an outdoor gym with exercise equipment, a couple of table tennis tables and a basket ball court too.
Parking & Facilities
There’s a free mid sized car park at Watlington Sports Pavilion which is next to the playground and the cricket club.
