Small + Mighty Family Hub

Small + Mighty Family Hub is a modern family club on Godalming high street in Surrey. Founded by entrepreneur Gillian Muir, she wanted to create a space that both adults and children could hang out and enjoy equally together.  Opening on 10th May 2024, we were lucky to have an early experience to check it out.

The name is perfect for this hidden gem, at first glance you may think that this is a small children’s place but once inside it opens up to a huge space which has been carefully designed to include a wide variety of different activities to appeal to different age groups.

A place where forward-thinking play design meets great coffee and amazing food.

For families with mixed age kids Small+Mighty is the best hangout in Surrey to catch up with friends, family and playmates.

As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a warm and welcoming team, the cafe provides delicious hot and cold refreshments. There is plenty of seating around the space so you can safely sit and watch the children whilst they are playing and exploring.

The four carefully crafted Modern Play spaces surround a stylish open plan cafe so you can kick back and enjoy a full view of your little ones while they explore. Each of the four play spaces are created with age groups under 10 in mind. They utilise modern play concepts, sensory technology and tactile elements to create a safe and developmentally engaging environment for children to explore and learn through play.

Baby play space 0-2 years

The modern sensory baby space is perfect for pre-walkers. Babies can enjoy the different textures of our tactile wall games and safely explore the sensory light tubes in the soft welcoming space. The sensory space is perfect for babies to try tummy time with colourful sensory floor mats that encourage their focus and attention. Babies are also able to enjoy the interactive digital space where they can interact with nature scenes like scattering leaves, bubble pop, running water and moving clouds against calming music and light sensations.

Modern Soft Play for ages 0-7 years

The modern timber-based soft play area is perfect for kids under seven. Your little ones will love interacting with the Mighty Monsters while they safely explore tunnels, peep through bubble windows and climb over cargo nets and through bash bags.

The space is loaded with sensory lights and mirrors, wall games and balance bubbles to capture their imagination. The area utilises a calming colour pallet with pops of colour and is surrounded by LED lighting and cushioned flooring and wall padding to encourage safe and calm child-led play.

Interactive games 0-10 years

The interactive digital sensory zone is a flexible space for all children to enjoy. The ceiling to floor projector holds 37 sensory modes, games and tasks such as battleships, football, bug splat, dance floor, piano keys, and the floor is lava.

The interactive software is highly responsive to even small gestures enabling older children to play games and babies and toddlers to enjoy sensory activities and experiences. They also have a wall mounted touch screen games panel enabled with collaborative learning games that can be played solo or in teams for children up to age 10.

Creation station 2-10 years

The modern Creative Station is a flexible space that allows children to participate in a range of creative class-based activities from seasonal craft sessions such as easter bonnet decorating or valentines cookie making to music, art and cookery. The cleverly designed space is packed with a range of inspiring materials and tools to create all sorts of mighty masterpieces.

The soft play area was beautiful and the colour concept set this apart from other soft plays which we have seen. It was the perfect size for both Noah and Isabella to comfortably explore, and they both had great fun racing down the slides, and trying to hop onto the different humps. There was also some interactive toys on the wall here which they both loved playing.

Noah’s favourite part was the interactive area where he could sit and play games, or try his skills at the large battleship game on the floor. He’s never seen something like this before so he was really engaged in it. It was a welcome sight to see an area like this as it was great for their sensory experience and a new concept of learning.

Small+Mighty have honestly thought of everything here, from the baby area, soft play, craft corner to the interactive area – there is something which will appeal to all age groups. For me this is great as having two children it’s always awkward to entertain them both but here the space was ideal and both children had lots of fun.
