Wings, war stories, and wow moments — history has never flown so fast! The Royal Airforce Museum in Edgware and it was such a cool day out!
We took my parents along (my Dad spent many years in the RAF and was the perfect fountain of knowledge for all of Freddies questions).
There are six aircraft hangers that are packed full of RAF history and it’s a really interesting place to visit. And if you have children who love aeroplanes then even better!! The boys were obsessed with all the planes and how close we were to them all.
There are lots of interactive bits to do throughout, you could go into some of the aircraft’s, interactive exhibits to use, a sketching area which Freddie loved, and bits to climb to see some of the planes from above. There was also a 4D cinema and up close experience (these were extra charge) but we didn’t do those on this visit.
There are also many many aircrafts to see, helicopters, planes, jets and even planes that were damaged from the war. It was so interesting and there was so much to look at.
The museum also has a fantastic park which was perfect for the kids to run off some steam in the middle of the walk around and at the end.
We had the most epic game of hide and seek in this park! There was a toy house, toy planes and plenty of other bits for the climbs to climb on and play in.
There is a cafe but you are also welcome to take a picnic. We had lunch in the cafe and I will say it was quite pricey for the food but there was plenty of childrens sandwiches etc and some nice cakes!
This museum is FREE to visit, and definitely worth the drive (just under an hour from Aylesbury). There is just a £10 charge to park the car. It is recommended to book your tickets in advance (no charge) and it was super easy to get in scanning out tickets on entry.
This was a fantastic, full day out, we could have stayed longer and I’m sure we’ll visit again. The kids had an amazing time and it was also a great chance to learn especially for the older ones. Freddie had so many questions and was talking about it for days afterward so he certainly found it eye opening!
But it’s a lovely setting in big open hangers, comfortable for buggy’s and nice and open for the small ones to have space to move around and was definitely a family friendly day out!
