Barn Meadow Playground
You may be familiar with Old Amersham High Street and the Memorial Gardens but have you explored further?
Old Amersham is a starting point for so many walks including along to Shardeloes, up to Amersham-on-the-Hill and around the Old Town itself.
Once you are in the Old Town find your way along to the Memorial Gardens on the High Street next to St Mary’s Church. There is so much to see and the flower beds are beautifully maintained. In the Summer there is often local musicians playing which makes you feel like you are on holiday!
If you walk through the Gardens you pop out at the back of the High Street with an open space and paved areas so it is ideal for scooters or a buggy. The River Misbourne has little bridges and in the Summer can be shallow to paddle in.
Our walking route takes us left and along to the traffic light crossing towards Barn Meadow. Keep walking past the doctors surgery and you will find a playground, large field and the river again.
We can spend a whole day down in Old Amersham when the weather is bright. The play area at Barn Meadow has a wide enough range of equipment to keep the children busy. The zip line is not working which is a shame but will hopefully be fixed. There are a range of swings, 2 climbing structure of varying ability, wooden balance beams and small slides.
The field has football pitches and is gently big enough for picnics, sports and bikes. It has benches at either end but not many bins so do be prepared for this if you have a picnic.
There are no facilities in Barn Meadow but it is a stones throw from the High Street with it’s many many cafes. restaurants, pubs and Tesco (so can always pop there for the loo!) The little river (Misbourne) is at the end of the field and has bridges to the residential homes and also into one of the pub gardens! My children spend hours in this river in the Summer with crocs on and fishing nets.
If you plan too drive to Old Amersham there is a public car park and time restricted parking along the high street for either 1 or 2 hours. You can also park on School Lane but this should be avoided at times each end of the school day for obvious reasons.
