Dorney Lake is a fantastic place for a family walk, bike, scoot or rollerskate. Set in a spectacular 450-acre parkland near Windsor, the site hosted the Rowing and Kayak events during the Olympic and Paralympic Games for London 2012. It’s privately-owned but open to the public seasonally from September to mid-April.
We recommend checking when the grounds are open before traveling as occasionally theye may need to change the opening times at short notice.
As the rowing course gets busy with local clubs coming to train over the winter months, the grounds will be closed to the public in the mornings until 2pm on selected weekend dates. This is to ensure the safety of all users, as all coaching paths and access roads are utilised to accommodate the high volumes of traffic during busy weekend rowing sessions.
Dorney Lake track
There is a 3 mile long track around the rowing lake. The path is tarred, flat and has a very smooth surface – making it one of the best places in Berkshire for scooting, rollerskating or for children learning to ride bikes.
Things to see at Dorney Lake
Spot ducks and swans in the lake. Plane enthusiasts will also enjoy the low flying aircraft flying into Heathrow! On some days, you’ll also see rowers and maybe even dragon boats.
Parking
There is parking in the Arboretum Car Park situated just inside the main entrance gates. There is a flat rate charge to park of £2.50 which can be made by either contactless payment or by the JustPark app.
Refreshments
Head next door to the wonderful Dorney Court Kitchen Garden centre which serves lovely coffee, cakes and hot lunches including kids meals. There is a lovely playground and outdoor tables here.
